To give a sense of the scale of the threat, Mastercard’ s cybersecurity and identity services assess 32 million fraud events every day. One component of this is Safety Net – Mastercard’ s AI-powered fraud defence capability, designed to monitor our global network to identify unusual patterns and help stop emerging fraud attacks before they spread.
By analysing signals across billions of transactions within Mastercard’ s network, Safety Net detects anomalies that may indicate an attack, and it then intercepts the transaction before it is completed. Over the last decade, the solution has prevented 70 billion fraudulent transactions from taking place. That is proactive defence in action. AI can uncover patterns across vast data sets that would otherwise go unnoticed at a scale and speed that humans alone cannot replicate. The future of fraud prevention will depend exactly on this kind of anticipatory model.
