CJ has spent his career close to the machinery of cyber defence. He joined AWS in 2007 after working in the FBI’ s Cyber Division, where he analysed computer and network intrusions. He also served as a Special Agent with the US Air Force Office of Special Investigations, before moving into commercial security. At AWS, CJ held several security roles, including Deputy CISO and CISO of AWS, before becoming CISO of Amazon Integrated Security in 2023. In that role, he leads security engineering and operations across Amazon, helping its businesses adopt secure practices more easily. His remit also intersects with Amazon Threat Intelligence, which has published findings on ransomware, zero-day exploitation and AI-enabled attacks. CJ has described his preference for a security function that enables teams to move securely rather than simply telling them what they cannot do.
